Rumworth School

Rumworth ITT

Rumworth School is a centre for Initial Teacher Training that holds Advanced Partnership Status as graded by Manchester Metropolitan University.  We are proud to host the School Experience programme as well as having trainee teachers from Bolton University, Manchester Metropolitan University and Rivington and Blackrod Schools Direct Alliance.

Teacher training is going from strength to strength at Rumworth School. We are proud to be involved with a range of training routes and are looking forward to building these in the future to create partnerships with other initial teacher training (ITT) providers.

At Rumworth we pride ourselves on fostering a nurturing and supportive nature for teacher training in order to encourage trainee teachers to reach their potential and unlock the outstanding teacher inside of them!

If you have any questions about teacher training please contact our Professional mentor & Lead Teacher of Initial Teacher Training, Gina Stafford via email at: gstafford@rumworth.bolton.sch.uk

Manchester Metropolitan University

We currently host a number of trainees for the PGCE Block A and Block B placements. This placement is ideal for those trainee teachers that are considering a career in Special Education Needs once they have qualified. We have many teachers at Rumworth School that are fully trained MMU Subject Mentors. Many of our subject mentors host sessions at MMU with regards to SEND teaching and education.

Rivington and Blackrod School Direct

Rumworth School is part of the Rivington and Blackrod Schools Direct Teaching Alliance, which is a collective group of 12 schools that provide PGCE placements in all subjects for trainee teachers. The aim of the alliance is to hopefully secure employment in one of the local schools for trainees once they qualify. Our Professional Mentor,is heavily involved with the delivery of training days for the alliance, particularly around SEND teaching and understanding behaviour. The Schools Direct training route is almost identical to the core programme at MMU but SD trainees spend a little longer with their host schools during their placements.

University of Bolton - Teaching Learners with Additional Needs 14+

The Sixth Form and Lifebridge (post 19-25 facility) are now hosting trainee teachers who are following a slightly different pathway to the generic PGCE course. These trainee teachers are training specifically to teach learners that have additional needs and are older than age 14. One of our subject mentors, Victoria Coyle and Gina Burrows Professional Mentor are fully qualified to assess and grade ITT for this training route.
